MOM (AKA BROOKE CHANEY)

About the artist

MOM is a contemporary and multidisciplinary artist, active in Dallas, TX since 2020. Their recent work features a variety of mediums including vinyl, latex paint, and ready made objects. Inspired by experimentation with contrast, balance, and color, landscapes are given a new breath between experimental color stories and illusionary stripes. MOM is currently featured at Meow Wolf in Grapevine, TX and is co-founder of Dallas artist co-op & studio, Trade Oak Cliff.

ABout the exhibition

Chaney’s show “Procession”, featuring in CAC’s Gallery from June 14th to August 11th, will sample a wide timeline of their artistic practice. Their paintings drift in to and out of abstraction. Recognizable representations expand into the formal, challenging an established item’s identity with the play between the contrasts of color and balance of lines: Landscapes become stripes become landscapes. Speaking on the vision of this exhibition, Chaney communicated: “Conceptually, I view my professional art journey as a procession of creativity/creation, problem solving, and self discovery. This can feel both ceremonious and relentless depending on the context. Either way, I've learned through my artistic expression, that I am a person of curiosity and structure with a goal to keep moving forward.”
