EAR RESIDENCY

EAR (Equitable Artist Residency) is grounded in centering the expressed needs of BIPOC artists in order to create more equitable and reciprocal relations between the Creative Arts Center of Dallas (CAC) and BIPOC artists. This residency functions in two main pieces: (1) Artists are required take over our gallery and provide a show for CAC and (2) assist in providing and creating community-based events for the greater Dallas public.

In keeping with our IDEA Statement*, artists will be chosen based on their application with significant consideration given to identity markers. It is our mission to choose artists to reflect the racial make up of Dallas as a city (SOURCE: City of Dallas - Office of Economic Development).

The Creative Arts Center of Dallas’ Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access Statement

Art is a uniquely human experience; a universal language that empowers people. Art gives voice to individuals and groups, it expresses hopes and fears, and continues to be one of the most powerful tools of expression for humankind. Whether social movements, environmental awareness, political commentary, collective worldviews, intimate personal experiences or the significance of a single moment - art has made communication without limits possible.

Dallas is one of the most racially diverse cities in our country, making its challenges worthy of special attention and deliberate action. Founded by a Mexican immigrant artist Octavio Medellín more than 50 years ago, the Creative Arts Center of Dallas (CAC) has served as an incubator for generations of citizen artists. CAC is committed to fowarding accessibility, diversity, and inclusion in every area of our organization, including recruitment of staff, teachers, board, students, and volunteers. We aim to recognize and learn from diverse voices and perspectives. We also pledge to ensure that the communities we serve through our outreach programming are enthusiastically accessible, diverse, and inclusive.
