DIANE FLYNN
became interested in art in childhood and painted oils in high school. She took a stained glass class in 1978 while working as an RN. Although she continued her nursing career, her free time was spent making stained glass gifts and later, architectural windows for custom homes and several churches. An interest in glass beadmaking and jewelry was sparked by a glass beadmaking workshop with Alison Sheafor in 1993. During this time she started her home-based studio in Arlington. Diane discovered her true passion in 1996 when she entered the glassblowing program at UTA, where she remained until 2006. Her work is a culmination of all of the techniques she has acquired over the years. The diverse properties of glass itself give her an enormous palette. When hot, glass can be blown, manipulated with tools, poured into molds, pulled into canes, even strings. When cold, it can be cut, carved, sandblasted, engraved, polished and painted. Although not presently blowing glass, she continues to work in fused, flame worked and cast glass. She is also an instructor at the Craft Guild of Dallas, offering classes in stained glass and beadmaking.
